Every weekend, the journalists of LePetitJournal.com/Los-Angeles sit down at the table for you. First review: first disappointment for Benoit Clair with “Azur" in Beverly Hills.

After months of construction and repeated opening delays, Azur Beverly Hills was meant to be the new standard-bearer for Mediterranean cuisine. Unfortunately, reality falls far short of the promise. The owners have already scaled back their ambitions, offering a $35 lunch menu in which the only truly successful dish is the pistou soup ($12). Mussels ($25) are scarce, the roast chicken is overly firm, served with a jus that arrives cold and far too salty, and the avocado toast—thick to the point of clumsiness—does nothing to hide the glaring absence of customers; perhaps that explains… everything... And the final flourish: order long espressos and watch them magically transform into Americanos, served in breakfast mugs (croissants not included!) !!! Add to that a dining-room staff who are “nice,” as we say in the South of France, but decidedly average when it comes to service… and you’re better off simply walking away.
