Volunteer opportunities—including translator and interpreter roles—are available not only in Los Angeles, but also in Columbus, Nashville, New York, Oklahoma City, St. Louis, San Diego, and San Jose. Here's everything you need to know.
Volunteers will welcome athletes, guide spectators, provide translation services, support first responders, and assist transportation and communications teams. Around 60,000 volunteers will be recruited to help prepare for and deliver the Olympic and Paralympic Games between March and September 2028.
For those selected, LA28 promises "the role of a generation"—and even "the role of a lifetime."
Applicants do not need to be U.S. citizens or permanent residents to be considered. However, they must be at least 18 years old at the time of registration, be able to speak and write in English, and commit to completing at least 10 volunteer shifts, each lasting approximately eight hours.
Volunteers may serve in Los Angeles or in one of the other host cities: Columbus, Nashville, New York, Oklahoma City, St. Louis, San Diego, or San Jose.
Applicants are encouraged to indicate their preferred location, as well as any specialized skills that could qualify them for specific volunteer positions.
For those already living in Southern California, additional volunteer opportunities will become available over the coming months, including community initiatives such as Los Angeles beach cleanups.
The volunteer application portal officially opened on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, exactly two years before the opening ceremony.
"Volunteers are the backbone of the Games," said LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover.
"Sign up and be part of the Games," added Paul-Ian Armitage, former manager of Le Golf National in Guyancourt and the executive overseeing golf competitions for both Paris 2024 and Los Angeles 2028. "We can't do it without you!"
