On 14 July, there is no need to leave the Emerald Isle to experience the spirit of the French National Day. Bastille Day Ireland 2026: Dublin’s big French celebration

On Tuesday 14 July 2026, Dublin will once again turn blue, white and red. Bastille Day Ireland returns to The Church Café, Late Bar & Restaurant for a new festive, popular and free edition in the heart of the Irish capital.

Bastille Day 2018

Organised by Le Petit Journal Dublin and French Friday, in partnership with the Embassy of France in Ireland and with the support of the Alliance Française Dublin, the event has become one of the key annual gatherings for the French, French-speaking and Francophile communities in Ireland.

For this 12th edition, the spirit remains the same: celebrating the French National Day in a friendly, musical and unmistakably French atmosphere, without leaving Dublin. Think 14 July with an Irish twist, a hint of Parisian terrace, a touch of popular street party, and plenty of chances to catch up with friends.

It is hard to imagine a more spectacular venue for Bastille Day in Dublin. A former 18th-century church transformed into a bar, restaurant and event space, The Church offers a truly distinctive setting, combining historic architecture, a central bar, a terrace and a very Dublin atmosphere.

Located just a few steps from O’Connell Street, the venue has become one of the natural meeting points for 14 July celebrations in Dublin. People come for a drink, to meet friends, listen to music, grab something to eat, dance, or simply enjoy a French atmosphere in the middle of the city.

Brass band during Bastille Day

As every year, Bastille Day Ireland 2026 will offer a programme designed to keep the celebration going throughout the day. Expected highlights include a French brass band, French Cancan dancers, a DJ set, a crêpe stand, face painting and a French menu specially prepared by The Church.

The idea behind the event is simple: everyone can drop by whenever they like, with family, friends or colleagues, and enjoy a French moment in Dublin. Children will also have their place in the afternoon, with the brass band, crêpes and face painting, while the evening will gradually become more musical and festive.

The full programme will be announced gradually, but one thing is already certain: there will be plenty of singing, dancing, snacking, toasting, and at least one mildly compromising photo under a French flag.

A free event open to everyone

Entry will be free all day. Whether you are French and living in Ireland, French-speaking, a student, an expat, binational, a fan of French culture or simply curious, Bastille Day Ireland is designed as an open, accessible and intergenerational event.

It is also a chance to meet part of Dublin’s French community in a relaxed setting, far from overly formal official ceremonies. Here, France is celebrated with music, good humour, a little self-mockery, and probably a few berets pulled out of the wardrobe for the occasion.

Bastille Day 2019

A celebration that goes beyond Dublin

While Bastille Day Ireland 2026 will bring Dublin to life on 14 July, the celebration will not be limited to the capital. Once again this year, the spirit of the French National Day will be felt across Ireland, with several initiatives open to the public, both in person and online.

For those who cannot make it to The Church, online cooking and drawing competitions will be organised. It is a lovely way to take part remotely, with family or friends, and celebrate from anywhere in Ireland. Participation details are available on the Bastille Day 2026 Facebook page.

Another highlight of this national programme is a free French film festival, taking place from 1 to 19 July in Cork, Dublin, Dún Laoghaire and online. Presented by the Embassy of France in Ireland, in association with the Alliance Française Irish network, Institut français and several Irish cultural partners, the programme invites audiences to discover French cinema, language and culture through a selection of classic and contemporary films.

Comedies, short films, family screenings, a documentary and an online feature film: the programme will explore a wide range of themes, including youth, friendship, equality, identity and migration, while also highlighting women’s rights and perspectives through diverse stories and roles. All screenings will be free, in French with English subtitles.

A celebration that has become unmissable in Ireland

Since its first edition in Dublin, Bastille Day Ireland has grown alongside the French and French-speaking community in Ireland. The event now attracts a wide audience every year and has become one of the summer highlights for anyone wishing to celebrate 14 July in Dublin.

Beyond the party itself, Bastille Day is also a moment of connection between France and Ireland. You will meet long-established expats, newcomers, Franco-Irish families, students, lovers of the French language and Dubliners simply looking for a different kind of atmosphere.
